Irish Catholic Bishops will join others in global prayer on Friday 25 March 2022 as Pope Francis consecrates Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
In a letter issued on Wednesday, the Pope invited all Bishops to pray a "solemn Act of Consecration of humanity, and Russia and Ukraine in particular, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary". Pope Francis's decision to hold the consecration is reportedly in response to a direct request from Ukraine’s bishops on the ground.
Pope Francis will lead the Act of Consecration in a service beginning in the Vatican at 5.00pm Roman time.
Irish bishops have organised events across the 26 dioceses involving lay people, religious and the clergy. Services will be streamed via Cathedral webcams.
The Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven & St Nicholas, Galway, will join in the Act of Consecration during 6.00pm Mass.
