Embrace the Spirit of Christmas at Galway Cathedral’s Live Crib Event
Galway Cathedral is delighted to announce the return of its much-anticipated Live Crib on Thursday 14th December 2023, inviting visitors from 11:30am to 4:00pm to immerse themselves in the true spirit of the Christmas season.
A cherished tradition in the city for numerous years, the Live Crib showcases a life-size representation of the traditional Bethlehem nativity scene, complemented by the presence of real farm animals. Cathedral parishioners assume the roles of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and the shepherds, while choirs from local schools serenade the day with Christmas carols.
Msgr Peter Rabbitte of Galway Cathedral says: “In the midst of wintry gloom, the crib and its profound symbolism affirm life, illuminate our surroundings, and instill hope in the hearts of people of goodwill throughout our city, diocese, and beyond.”
Fr John Gerard Acton echoed these sentiments, saying, “We eagerly anticipate the arrival of individuals of all ages and faiths to partake in the sights, sounds, and scents of that inaugural Christmas night.”
The Cathedral Live Crib will be located just outside the Salmon Weir Bridge door, offering free admission to all who wish to partake in this heart-warming experience.
Come join us and embrace the true spirit of Christmas at Galway Cathedral’s Live Crib!
